Our Counseling Methods
At Streams in the Valley Counseling, we offer compassionate Christian counseling and evidence-based therapy for individuals, couples, families, and children. Our goal is to provide practical tools, compassionate care, and Christ-centered support that fosters lasting emotional, relational, and spiritual growth. Each counseling approach we use is thoughtfully selected to support your unique needs, preferences, and goals.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. When negative or unhelpful thought patterns begin to influence how you feel and respond, CBT provides practical tools to identify, challenge, and replace those thoughts with more truthful and life-giving perspectives.
This approach supports emotional regulation, reduces anxiety and depression, and builds healthy coping skills. Over time, CBT can help you respond to life with greater clarity, intentionality, and hope, rather than feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy combines the practical tools of CBT with mindfulness practices that help you become more aware of your thoughts and emotions without being overwhelmed by them.
This approach teaches you how to slow down, stay present, and observe your internal experiences with greater calm and clarity. Rather than reacting automatically, you learn to respond with intention. MBCT is especially helpful for managing anxiety, stress, and recurring negative thought patterns, while fostering a greater sense of peace and emotional balance.
Person-Centered Therapy
Person-Centered Therapy is rooted in the belief that each individual has inherent worth and the capacity for growth and healing. In this approach, your counselor provides a safe, nonjudgmental space where you are fully seen, heard, and respected.
Through genuine care, empathy, and acceptance, you are supported as you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. This process helps build self-awareness, confidence, and clarity, empowering you to move forward in ways that align with your values and goals.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) focuses on identifying and transforming irrational or unhelpful beliefs that contribute to emotional distress.
This approach helps you recognize how certain thought patterns may be influencing your reactions and equips you with tools to replace them with more balanced and constructive beliefs. REBT is especially effective for addressing anxiety, anger, guilt, and self-defeating patterns, helping you develop healthier emotional responses and greater resilience.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy emphasizes practical, goal-oriented change rather than focusing extensively on past problems. This approach helps you identify your strengths, clarify your goals, and take meaningful steps toward the future you desire.
Together, we focus on what is already working in your life and build on those strengths to create progress. SFBT is especially helpful for individuals seeking short-term counseling, clarity in decision-making, or support navigating specific challenges.
Play-Based Support and Skill Building for Children and Teens in Round Rock
Children and teens often express their thoughts and emotions through play, creativity, and interaction more naturally than through conversation alone. At Streams in the Valley Counseling, we incorporate developmentally appropriate tools such as games, art, and therapeutic storytelling to help young people engage and feel at ease.
While this is not licensed play therapy, these play-based approaches are thoughtfully integrated with evidence-based and psychoeducational strategies. Sessions focus on building emotional awareness, strengthening coping and regulation skills, and improving communication and relationships in age-appropriate ways.
With parent consent, we may also coordinate care with trusted adults and professionals, including teachers, school counselors, pediatricians, psychiatrists, or ministry leaders, to support each child’s growth across settings.
Prepare/Enrich Couples Assessment
The Prepare/Enrich Couples Assessment is a research-based tool designed to help couples build stronger, healthier relationships. Guided by a trained counselor, couples explore key areas such as communication, conflict resolution, personality differences, finances, and family dynamics.
This assessment provides personalized insights and practical exercises that strengthen understanding, deepen connection, and support long-term relationship growth. It is beneficial for dating, engaged, and married couples at any stage.
Christian Counseling in Round Rock, Texas
Christian counseling integrates evidence-based clinical care with a biblical worldview to support emotional, relational, and spiritual healing. We meet you where you are, honoring your beliefs, questions, and experiences with faith.
Depending on your preferences, sessions may include prayer, Scripture, or simply counseling that respects your spiritual background. Our approach is grounded in compassion, biblical wisdom, and Christ-centered hope, while remaining clinically sound and individualized.
We welcome individuals and families from Round Rock, Pflugerville, Hutto, and greater Austin who are seeking supportive, faith-aligned counseling. We welcome individuals from all faith backgrounds, and you will never be required to express beliefs you do not hold.
Building Healthy Support Systems
Therapy is an important part of healing, and it is not meant to be your only source of support. We help you identify and build a network of resources that strengthen your growth both during and beyond counseling.
This may include books, practical tools, support groups, community resources, or faith-based connections such as a local church. Strengthening your support system can provide encouragement, accountability, and stability as you navigate life’s challenges.
You do not have to carry everything alone. We are here to help you build a foundation of support that fosters lasting healing, connection, and hope.
